M.I.Y Monday: Pottery Giveaway

There is a lot going on this week besides Make it Yourself Monday. There is Iditarod, St. Patrick's Day, and the Ides of March, among other things.  Me thinks this calls for a celebration, don't you?  I am celebrating by doing a pottery giveaway. There is nothing I like better to make myself than a fun ceramic form.  Last week we made colanders in my "Jazz up the Kitchen" class, so I am going to offer this lovely blue one for one lucky winner.

This porcelain, food/dishwasher safe colander is the perfect size to hold a couple pints of fresh picked berries,  or a bag of apples.  It could also be used by a knitter/crocheter as a yarn bowl--simply run your yarn through any one of its myriad holes.

If you aren't into the fruit or yarn, you could also put a candle in it and use it as a luminary.

To enter the giveaway, simply post a comment below with your name and describe a favorite piece of pottery you own. I will do a randomly generated drawing for a winner on Monday, March 21st.

  1. Oooh! I was just thinking yarn bowl when I saw this!! I need one of those! Or a pretty colander...or a candle holder! :) This is beautiful as usual...your work is amazing. My favorite pottery piece I actually got at a garage sale a couple weeks ago. It's a LKT little bowl that I now use as a business card holder. It's beautiful and the perfect colors for me. It will be at my craft table...come check it out! :) Thanks Tara...you are so talented.

  2. I have a beautiful LKT bowl in my kitchen cupboard that is one of my pottery faves:) It is just the right size to hold a serving of soup for a cold winter's day. I will definitely be visiting the craft fair this week and will come by and check out your table!

  4. The holes in the collander echo the mysterious holes in stones on your beach in Nome. My favorite piece of pottery is a cobalt blue platter which incorporates crushed glass in raised / embossed calla lily design. You made this treasured piece a dozen years ago or so.

  5. Haha! Mom--trying to win extra points by making my pottery your fave;) I was so proud of that plate when I made it though. Pottery has this element of unpredictability where you might love something all they way up until the final firing and then the glaze just doesn't look the way you want it to and it is SUCH a let down. That plate was one of the rare exceptions where I LOVED it when it was finished. I am glad it lives at your house!

  6. I have a beautiful cobalt blue pottery crock with a lid. It was my great great grandmothers and she brought it over from Ireland with her. The color is amazing so it probably has tons of lead in it, LOL. But, it looks pretty with a bunch of while carnations in it!

  7. I think I've gotta get in on this action. I would use this as a colander AND a yarn bowl!
My fav piece of pottery is an over-sized mug I got for free for donating to the Nome Arts Council. It went perfect with Earl Grey. It seems however that I'm married to the Incredible Hulk who inadvertently can just pull handles off of mugs at will.

  8. My favorite piece of pottery is a mug I bought at a pottery sale in Nome. It's blue and cream and when I make my mochas, it reminds me of having coffee with Tara after a hard day's work.
